Jean-Marie Collot d'Herbois

Collot d'Herbois was one of the most bloody of the leaders of the French Revolution. He is featured in the Baroness Orczy's novel, The Elusive Pimpernel, in a very negative fashion She portrays his personality as being very low-class; but he was a writer of some repute, so she may have exaggerated in that regard. However, if she took liberties with his personality, she certainly would seem to have captured his character.
