In his novel,
Lonely On the Mountain, Louis L'Amour refers more than once to Rupert's Land. This was a designation to a large section of Canada and a relatively small portion of what is now the United States. The name came from the fact that the area was included in an English Royal Charter which had been granted to the Hudson Bay Company, which was under the governorship of the King's cousin, Prince Rupert of the Rhine.
