What has happened to the accents of young Southern girls? They don't talk Southern any more. They have that affected, beauty contest, Southern California accent. Yuch! And I'm talking about girls from Arkansas, Dallas, - everywhere down here. It's AWFUL.

So you don't like the way I talk? At least I have pretty good grammer.
I like the way you talk just fine. I can tell where you are from.
Oh, I had better not comment for I do not think that you would like what I have to say. So, As my Mom would say, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Little ol' me did enjoy the movie by the way. Can't believe I did not remember it. We will have to do it again, ya"ll hear now? ;)
Treat a girl to a nice (free) movie (even cheaper when she's on a diet and can't even consume any refreshments) and what do you get from it? Abuse, that's what! Abuse. All right then, laugh if you want to, deride if you must, but I love to hear the wonderful tones of our girls from south of the MD line (that's Mason-Dixon to you Yankees).
I have to agree with you, Mark, (this is Pam) that Sis. Hatton has the most musical voice I have ever heard and I never get tired of hearing her talk.
For those of you youngsters who aren't familiar with Fibber McGee and Molly, Fibber used to defend himself by saying, "Scoff if you want to, deride if you must." It wasn't original with me. (Wish I had thought of it, though.)
After each of my visits to Arkansas, my co-workers think I speak "differently." I'm afraid, however, that I sound much more like Mr. Matthew Green - with all of his mechanicin' - than any genteel southern woman with a lilting voice. Guess I should quit spending so much time imitating him and spend more time with Sister Pam.
I get many comments on my accent down here. It' amazing how people can pinpoint where I'm from originally.
I too love listening to the Hattons talk.
