Champagne Velvet beer - irritating commercials

Among the most unpleasant commercials on old time radio were the ones for Champagne Velvet (CV) Beer on Boston Blackie. They would use the line, "It's just as smooth . . ." Smooth would be pronounced as "smeeoooooooth." It was as if they were trying to make it sound as ridiculous as possible. The logic behind this tactic is hard to fathom.
