For about 8 ½ years I worked for a toy company in Booneville, Arkansas. It was a unique experience. The company, Wolverine Toy, had been stationed in Pittsburgh in an old, multi-story building. After they were purchased by Spang & Co. of Butler, PA, they moved to Booneville in a new facility that eventually would cover about twenty acres. The cash cow for the company for many years was the Rite Hite line of metal, child-size appliances. When the President of the company retired, the chairman of Spang brought in his daughter as the new President. Since metal toys were beginning to fade from favor, she and the parent company decided to tool up to make heavy plastic toys, and the name of the company was changed to Today’s Kids. Eventually the company went out of business, so all its products are not collector’s items, especially the older metal pieces.
