Best movie soundtracks

Best soundtracks. Favorite soundtracks.

IMHO, the all-time best movie soundtrack is Alexander Nevsky, for obvious reasons. In modern times, I think the theme to Rocky was outstanding for its purpose. What are your favorites and your choices for best?

Oh, that would have been good, Ceridwen. I could just see you and J. walking down the carpet with that music in the background. That would have been very intertaining to say the least. :)

It isn't the theme, but the Entrance of the Charioteers from Ben Hur is one of the really great musical moments in film history.

I don't know what you think of John Williams, but I like the scores to Schindler's List and E.T. Back in the day, I wore out Top Gun. Right now, I'm wearing out Pride and Prejudice. Last, but not least... I cannot fail to mention Magnificent Seven. Just gets me motivated.

Magnificent Seven was a very good one.

michaelspappy, that is a great point. that whole score for the movie is quite a wmasterpiece, in my opinion. extremely thematic, and the choice of chord progressions and tonal quality is chill-bumpy

A highlight of the Oscars this past weekend was Ennio Moriconne receiving an honorary Oscar. I didn't realize I knew so many of his works. Especially loved hearing the themes from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and from Fistful of Dollars again.
