Sea of Lost Ships (1953)

This is partly a tribute to the U. S. Coast Guard. However, any Walter Brennan movie is likely to be lively and entertaining. John Derek plays a seaman who has been booted out of the Coast Guard Academy, but who signs on nonetheless as an enlisted man. Barton MacLane (Torchy Blane's police lieutenant boyfriend in that series of movies) is the commander of the ship, which from the start of the movie is engaged in rescue operations. Derek and his foster brother (Richard Jaeckel) are both after the same girl (Wanda Hendrix). (Jaeckel actually served in the Navy from 1944 to 1948.)

The climax of the movie is the rescue from an iceberg of the crew of a ditched plane.
