Touchdown, Army (1938)

John Howard (of Bulldog Drummond fame) has the unlikely role as a Southern plebe on the West Point campus. (We have seen him do some good work, but this is not one of his best roles). He takes a lot of heckling. Robert Cummings is Jimmy Howell, his rival for the affections of Mary Carlisle, the daughter of the commandant (Minor Watson). William Frawley is Cummings' agent. Our old buddy Grant Withers is the Army coach.

Howal reports himself for inadvertent cheating before the Army-Navy game. Carlisle straightens out the confusion, and Cummings come racing into the stadium late in the game.

It is fun seeing the old-style football uniforms, and helmets without face guards. I would guess there were a lot of broken noses back in those days.

Lots of pretty good footage from old football games.
