The atomic bomb has just exploded, and a group of German scientists are working on a system to blow up atomic bombs by remote control. David Leonard is a scientist at a conference discussing the bomb. William Gargan is the agent that has been guarding him. After the conference, Leonard apparently is kidnapped and killed by Germans. Leonard's assistant killed him, and is picked up by the authorities. They quiz him about the last word of Leonard, designating a mountainous area in Europe. They start to give him truth serum, but he takes poison. His last words are, "The ravens will soon start flying." Then they discover that the man in the car was not really Leonard. Despite efforts by British agents, Leonard escapes to the mountains of Germany, with Gargan in pursuit.
At the inn, Gargan meets Maria Palmer, a newspaper reporter. He also meets his contact, Patrick O'Moore, who is posing as a waiter. One day, while she is out on a supposed horseback ride, she spies on Gargan and O'Moore when they leave the inn to try to pick up radio signals from different spots. She carries her information to the German headquarters. The head of the organization sets up a booby trap for O'Moore and Gargan in an isolated hut. Later Gargan is captured by the Germans. They forge a note to try to trap O'Moore. However, he sees through the trap and uses Palmer to get into the headquarters. He and Gargan fight a running gun battle with the Germans and make their way to the control room just in time to stop the explosion of the bomb.
