Thorndyke Swinburn, subway poet

He writes witty jingles about the New York subway, and was a (fictitious) guest on the Texaco Star Theater radio program. Here are a couple of examples of his work:

A commuter named Fosdick B. Fine
Took a book in the IIP line
But they knocked off his hat,
Squeezed his Grapes of Wrath flat.
He got off with a handful of wine

You may think you’re alone in the subway
As you ride down each morning to work
When you stop at Canal,
Mister, you’ve got a pal
‘Cause the train lets you off with a jerk.
