Cactus Lum Edwards (Lum and Abner)

In effort to impress a visiting lady who is infatuated with the Wild West, Lum brags about being a cowboy named "Cactus Lum," and before he knows it is entered in the bulldogging contest at the Mt. Ida rodeo. He puts stove bolts in his boots to help keep him on the horse, but is thrown anyway, and when he comes down, he has knocked out the steer and won the event. He retires immediately - undefeated.
