One of the funniest moments in the movie Rhythm on the River is when Ken Carpenter, the announcer for John Scott Trotter's band, has to stall while the stars are arguing in the background. He has to make up all sorts of claims for the product to keep the on-the-air commercial going, stalling bravely. He claims it can be used on salads, even that many engineers recommend it for a motor lubricant. He is breaking out in a sweat before Bing Crosby and Mary Martin finally arrive on stage to sing their song.
Carpenter once announced the Southern Cal and UCLA football games on radio. He was a well-known radio announcer, working for Bing Crosby, Al Jolson and Edgar Bergen.
