Osbert Van Shreve

You might not be familiar with this medical man, but he was undoubtedly in the forefront of orthopedic research. He was a “popular club man and retired air raid warden" in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, according to Ben Withers, a character on some of the latter Lum and Abner radio shows. He had been a welder and had developed his own method of bone treatment. He tried to get Lum to use him to heal his broken leg, but since it was faked, anyway, we never get to hear how effective the Van Shreve method may have been.
