Insurance Investigator (1951)

This stars Richard Denning, whom we first came to enjoy as the "husband" on the My Favorite Husband radio show, which starred Lucille Ball. He has been hired to look into a huge double-indemnity claim in which the partner (John Eldridge) of the victim is the beneficiary. Eldridge is under pressure to pay gambling notes he owes.

The daughter (Audrey Long) does not believe that her father's death was an accident. Jonathan Hale (our old friend from The Saint movies) of the insurance company agrees because of the large number of double indemnity accidents, and he is the one who calls in Denning. Long gets Denning a job at the firm, and starts asking questions - in an irritating affected Southern accent. Eldridge soon begins to suspect something is up, but then is murdered in a phoney suicide. The night club owner is behind it all. And, of course, Denning and Long are falling in love.

It is interesting to see Paul Brinegar (Wishbone on the Rawhide TV series) in a brief spot as a hospital orderly.
