Starved Rock, Illinois
Fibber McGee and his old pal, Fred Nitney, got their start in vaudeville at Starved Rock, Illinois, and it got mentioned many times on their program over the years. There really is such a place, or at least a state park by that name.
Driving through central Illinois, I have come across several areas that immediately bring Old Time Radio's Fibber McGee and Molly to mind: Peoria (of course), Starved Rock, and Kickapoo Creek...all areas that the McGees speak quite fondly of.
