J. Carrol Naish portrayed Charlie Chan on the television series. I do not think he was the best of the Charlies: that distinction, in my mind, goes to Warner Oland. However, I do think that Naish probably came closest to being what an actual police detective would have been. He was the most forceful and direct of the portrayals. His characer was slightly less of the gentleman and a little more of the policeman.
