I have mixed feelings about military history. There is absolutely nothing glorious about war. Whoever thinks so is an unfeeling fool. Men killed and maimed, children made orphans, homes and hopes destroyed - how in the name of sanity is that glorious? In one sense I do not even want to think about that subject at all. But it is history, and we learn from history. So sometimes I read it, but more and more with a sense of sadness, and without any sense of satisfaction.
