Rosalind Russell - almost too good at her role

My wife likes Rosalind Russell. She played a lot of the same sort of role - the cold professional woman who eventually gives in to love - but she was exceptionally good in that role and most of those movies are very enjoyable. Sometimes, however, and actor/actress can be so good at a role that you suspect he or she is not acting all that much. I have no idea if that was true in her case.
