Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink)

Klemperer became a household face to America in his role as Colonel Wilhelm Klink on Hogan's Heroes. However, there is much more to his story than that. His family emigrated to the U. S. in 1935, and he served in the Army's Special Forces unit in World War II, touring the Pacific entertaining the troops.

Klemperer took the role as a Nazi officer only with the understanding that he would only be portrayed in a foolish light. He won two Emmy awards for the role. While his violin playing on the show was terrible, he actually was an accomplished violinist and pianist, and also sang baritone.
