On each Fibber McGee and Molly radio program, the character called The Oldtimer would laugh at one of their quips, and then start one of his own with the line, "That's pretty good, Johnny, but that ain't the way I heard it."
On the episode entitled "The Sea Legs Matter," Johnny Dollar uses that line: "That ain't the way I heard it." There is no way of knowing for sure, but I assume that was a verbal tip of the hat to the older program.
