Tarzan and the Giant Squid

When I was a boy, we occasionally would attend Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church near Paris, Arkansas. I can remember distinctly that one Sunday someone has left a comic book on one of the benches about Tarzan and a battle he had with a giant squid. It made a huge impression upon me, as such things usually do to boys of that age. The squid let loose a great cloud of ink, which was interesting, and Tarzan killed the squid with just a knife.

Those of you who have seen the Disney version of 40,000 Leagues Under the Sea will remember the prominent part one of these creatures plays in that movie.

There actually are both Giant Squids and Colossal Squids. The latter is the larger of the two. It is known from only a few specimens, and is estimated to be 39-45 feet long, making it the largest known invertebrate.
