One of the most famous and hilarious on-going battles on radio was W. C. Fields vs. Charlie McCarthy. Fields, of course, was the famous child-hating, muttering boozer who was a frequent guest on the Edgar Bergen program. Both of the combatants got in lots of scathing digs at the other, much to the delight of the audience.
