Nothing But the Truth (1941)

A typical wacky Bob Hope vehicle, with a little different twist. Edward Arnold is the head of a brokerage firm, which Hope joins as a new partner. Because Hope demonstrates some scruples about dumping a dog of a stock, Arnold, Leif Erickson and Glenn Anders bet Hope that he can go 24 hours without telling a lie of any sort. Paulette Goddard is Arnold's niece and a member of the party. She gets Hope to invest some money she with which she has been entrusted for a charity group, and that is the money Hope uses for the wager.

They join a group on Arnold yacht and start trying to trip up Hope by getting him involved in all sorts of embarrassing situations in telling the truth. The muscular Erickson is sweet on Goddard, and looms threateningly in the background the whole time. One of the funniest scenes is when the trio steal Hope's pajamas to make sure he doesn't leave, and Goddard asks him to come see her, so he has to steal a lady's bath robe from the room next door.

Willie Best is Hope's valet, and as usual steals the show.
